FAQs
What can I expect during my first counselling session?
Your first session can be daunting prospect, but this is all about getting to know each other and ensuring I create a safe space for you. In our first session, we’ll take some time to explore what you would like to get out of working together and what issues feel most important to you.
How long will counselling take?
There’s no cap on how many sessions you can have - you can have as many or as little as you need, and this is something we’ll figure out together. You can start, end and re-start sessions when it feels right for you.
Is everything I share in counselling confidential?
Everything you share in counselling remains confidential, with a few exceptions, such as any disclosures of terrorism, money laundering, present concerns for child safeguarding and threat to others.
Whilst I respect client’s choices around self-harming behaviours or suicidal thoughts, there are extreme circumstances where I feel it may be appropriate to contact further support, however I will only do so with your consent, unless there is a significant risk of harm to yourself or others.
What type of issues can I talk about?
You can talk about any issues that you feel are having an impact on your life and wellbeing, past or present. I have significant experience in working with issues such as CPTSD, anxiety, child sex abuse, bereavement, domestic violence and self-harm. There is no judgement of you, or any issue you bring to counselling - I am here to support you with empathy and understanding.
How will working with you help me?
Throughout our work together, you may start to notice shifts in how you feel about yourself, your relationships, and your sense of control over life’s challenges. Many clients find that, over time, they experience reduced feelings of overwhelm and anxiety, an increase in self-compassion, and a renewed sense of inner strength and resilience.
You may begin to feel more present, more connected to those around you, and more confident in handling past traumas or difficult emotions. My aim is to support you in discovering these changes naturally, in a way that feels right for you, so that you can move forward with a deeper sense of peace and wellbeing.
How do I choose the right counsellor for me?
I offer a 20 minute free introductory call so we can have a chat, get to know each other and discuss how we could work together. I also always advise to speak with a few counsellors before you make any decisions - go with your gut feeling of who you feel is safe, warm and empathetic. Counselling requires vulnerability, and so it’s really important you feel your counsellor has your best interests in mind.
